Testing Options for the MAP

.The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is a suite of assessments that deliver data parents and teachers need to make a difference in student progress. There are two main testing options for the MAP:
- MAP Growth—measures areas that are related to school standards
- MAP Reading Fluency—measures oral reading fluency
Depending on your school’s selections, you could have any of the following testing options available from MAP Growth or MAP Reading Fluency. Please note that the number of questions listed is an approximation. The actual number varies for each student as the MAP testing system adapts to the student’s responses.
1. MAP Growth, Grades 2+
- Measures achievement and growth, inform instruction, and assesses strategy
- Reading, language usage, math (including course specific), and science
- 40 to 43 questions/about 45 to 60 min.
- RIT score (subject and instructional areas), shown in most reports
- Also: Learning Continuum statements and Lexile score
2. MAP Growth, Grades K–2
- Measure achievement and growth, inform instruction, and assess strategy
- Reading and math
- 43 questions/about 40 min. (but give in two 20-min. sessions)
- RIT score (subject and instructional areas), shown in most reports
- Also: Learning Continuum statements and Lexile® score
3. MAP Reading Fluency
- Benchmarking, universal screening, and instructional planning in foundational reading skills and reading fluency
- Dyslexia screening and progress monitoring available
- Reading 20 min.
- Dashboard including relative performance, zone of proximal development level, words-correct-per-minute, and the ability to listen and score by hand
4. The above tests are also available in Spanish for Spanish-speaking students. For more information, click here.
5. Accessible Tests. For students who need visual assistance, you can use tests that are compatible with screen readers, such as JAWS. Look for the term “Accessible” at the end of the test name. To learn more, click here for accommodations and accessibility information.
